Review

Ego Death, from the American R&B band The Internet, is a true banger, showing off their evolution and growth as artists. Dropped on June 26, 2015, through Odd Future and distributed by Columbia Records, this baby went hard on the music scene.

First off, folks loved this album. It raked in a 81 out of 100 on Metacritic, which means it got mad props from critics. Andy Kellman of AllMusic was feeling it, saying it's tighter and more substantial than their previous work.

Alright, let's talk about the musical depth. This album's got it all, from smooth soulful melodies in "Special Affair" and "Girl" (feat. Kaytranada) to the dope collaborations with Janelle Monáe in "Gabby" and Tyler, the Creator in "Palace." They really know how to rock with guests and make it feel natural.

Now, for the theme game. Love, heartbreak, and personal growth are up in this piece, but man, it feels personal yet universally relatable. Syd's voice brings the lyrics to life, making it feel like she's right there with you.

And, last but not least, the commercial success. This was The Internet's first Billboard 200 chart entry, peaking at number 89, and also number 9 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. They even got nominated for the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.

So there you have it, homie. Ego Death is a fresh, soulful, and contemporary R&B album that's packed with depth and nuance. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for some of the best of 2015. - Asher
