J. Holiday – Back Of My Lac’

Review

'Back of My Lac'' by J. Holiday is a debut that shimmers with the sleek production of late 2000s R&B. Released in 2007, this album is a polished gem that showcases Holiday's sultry vocals against a backdrop of lush instrumentation. The involvement of powerhouse producers like Darkchild and The-Dream gives each track a cinematic quality, as if each song could be the soundtrack to a high-end fashion show or a dramatic scene in a noir film.

While critics may have been divided, the album's commercial success speaks volumes. Debuting at number five on the Billboard 200 and earning a Grammy nomination, 'Back of My Lac'' proved Holiday was more than just a flash in the pan. The smash hit 'Bed' became an instant classic, its seductive melody and smooth lyrics perfectly encapsulating the album's blend of contemporary R&B with soulful undertones. Tracks like 'Ghetto' and 'Thug Commandments' showcase Holiday's versatility, offering a grittier edge that complements the album's more polished moments. It's this balance of urban grit and silky smoothness that makes 'Back of My Lac'' a defining album of its era.- Elodie
