Review

Iron Maiden's 'Piece of Mind' is a real beast of an album, and not just because it follows 'The Number of the Beast'. Released in '83, this bad boy marked Nicko McBrain's debut behind the kit, and boy did he make an entrance. The band cranked out some seriously intricate tunes, with 'Where Eagles Dare' and 'The Trooper' showcasing their knack for epic yet catchy songwriting. And let's not forget 'Revelations' and 'Still Life', which dive into deeper, more thoughtful territory.

These British metalheads didn't just pull their inspiration out of thin air, either. They dipped their toes into literature and history, with tracks like 'To Tame a Land' drawing from Frank Herbert's 'Dune', and 'Sun and Steel' giving a nod to samurai Miyamoto Musashi. The whole thing was recorded down in the Bahamas and mixed in New York City, giving it a crisp, clear sound that really lets the band's skills shine through. It's no wonder this album hit number three in the UK and went platinum on both sides of the pond. If you're into heavy metal and don't have this in your collection, you're seriously missing out. - Dylan
