Review

Throwing it all the way back to 2005, Amerie's second album, "Touch," brought a total switch-up from the neo-soul vibes of "All I Have." Plunge into the infectious R&B vibes mixing mad funky percussion, go-go beats and tingling electric pianos. You know, the kind of upbeat groove that compels you to roll down the windows and turn the music up loud. It's got that glossy ’90s sheen mixed with a sassy '00s edge, a perfect slice of intoxicating sounds from the era!

Now let’s chat about the banger that absolutely stole the show: "1 Thing." It climbed up the charts because it was straight fire and had everyone hooked from the jump. Peaking at a superb number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100, this track hit the top and turned gold for both digital and ringtone sales. Although some critics, like Kelefa Sanneh and Robert Christgau, pointed out that the rest of the album doesn't hit the same explosive height, we can still feel the electric mojo on every track.

Despite "1 Thing's" shadow, "Touch" snagged its spot at number five on the Billboard 200. Major props to Amerie’s saucepan-shaking vocals complemented by Rich Harrison’s production groove. Certified gold in the U.S. and flashing its charm on the UK's charts, the album proves it’s got that tasty blend of R&B which always resonates long after the 2000s party lights have gone down. Busting out versatile vocals and dance-driven fun, "Touch" had its moments of funky magic that ensured Amerie was more than a one-hit wonder! Paced back in the day perfectly, right? - Brooke
