'Half Life' by Wyatt Flores is a heartstring-tugging journey through the raw landscapes of loss and self-reflection. This eight-song EP, released in 2024, feels like a late-night conversation with a friend who's been through the wringer. Flores's voice carries the weight of his experiences, wrapping around each lyric like a weathered leather jacket - comfortable, but with stories etched into every crease.
The EP kicks off with 'Running Out of Time', a song that hits you like a sudden downpour, inspired by the loss of three of Flores's friends in 2022. It's a reminder that life's clock is always ticking, and we'd better make those seconds count. Throughout the album, Flores keeps circling back to this idea, like a moth drawn to a flickering flame.
Musically, Flores strips things down to the bare essentials, letting his words and melodies do the heavy lifting. Songs like 'Wish I Could Stay' and 'If I Don't See You Again' are country tearjerkers that would make even the toughest cowboy reach for a tissue. And just when you think you've got him pegged, Flores throws in 'Milwaukee', a folk-rock number that'll have you stomping your boots and clapping along, even as the lyrics keep that bittersweet undercurrent flowing. His cover of The Fray's 'How To Save a Life' fits right in, like it was always meant to be there. - Jasmine
