Review
The indie pop band Wet, hailing from the Big Apple, served us some serious vibes with their third studio album, "Letter Blue," which dropped on October 22, 2021. This album really takes us on a journey through the intimate corners of relationships, memory, and how quickly time slips through our fingers. It feels like we're seeing a new chapter in Wet's musical journey, and with folks like Blood Orange hopping in and Chaz Bear of Toro y Moi adding his production flair, it's like a symphony of collaborative genius. The tracks like "Over and Over," "Only Water," and "Bound" are the kind of tunes that stick with you, with their wistful melodies and deep, soul-searching lyrics, all underscored by those dreamy vocals Wet is known for.
Kelly Zutrau, the powerhouse voice leading Wet, really opens her heart on "Letter Blue," drawing from her personal life and even the literary world of Joan Didion. The track "The Letter Blue" gets real about the ups and downs of love and the strange ways our memories mess with us. It sounds like putting this album together was a profound experience for the band, with unexpected turns and moments of bold experimentation—just take "Larabar" as an example. And the collaboration with Blood Orange on "Bound" sprinkles a bit of magic into the mix, showcasing Wet's skill in composing music that truly touches on the real and sometimes messy parts of life. "Letter Blue" lets us in on how much Wet has evolved and their ability to create music that echoes within us. - Courtney
