Review
The latest release from Vance Joy, "In Our Own Sweet Time", is a pretty cool collection of songs that show how the artist has grown and evolved over time. It's got a lot of heart, and you can tell Joy wrote most of it during the pandemic, when everyone was stuck at home and had nothing but time to think. The album's got 12 tracks, and each one's got its own vibe, but they all come together to create this folk-pop sound that's just so distinctive. I think what really makes this album stand out is the way Joy can go from intimate, slow songs to more upbeat ones, and still make it all feel like it's coming from the same place.
I love how "In Our Own Sweet Time" is full of stories and memories, like the time Joy spent living in Spain, which inspired the song "Catalonia" - it's like you're right there with him, experiencing all these new things. And then there are tracks like "Wavelength", which features Dave Longstreth from Dirty Projectors, and that's a great example of Joy's willingness to take risks and try new things. The production on the album is top-notch, thanks to guys like Joel Little and Dan Wilson, who've worked with some big names in the past. It all comes together to create this warm, inviting sound that just draws you in and makes you want to listen to more. "In Our Own Sweet Time" is one of those albums that's all about finding comfort and peace in the midst of chaos, and I think that's something we can all relate to. - Rex
