Review

"October Rust" by Type O Negative - now we're talkin' about a GAME-CHANGER, folks! Released in 1996, this album is the real deal, a certified masterpiece of gothic metal that still gives me chills to this day! Produced by the ridiculously talented Peter Steele and Josh Silver, "October Rust" marked a bold new direction for the band, trading in some of that doom metal heaviness for more brooding, atmospheric soundscapes.

What really sets "October Rust" apart is its MOOD - it's like a dark, stormy night for your ears, with haunting ballads and snarling metal beasts lurking around every corner. And let's talk about Peter Steele's vocals - the dude could go from silky smooth to downright menacing in the blink of an eye, and "Haunted" is the perfect example. That song's got it all: soaring piano lines, crushing guitar riffs, and Steele's signature growl. And just when you think it can't get any better, the album serves up a KILLER cover of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" - who knew Type O Negative could do retro psychedelic rock so well?!

Now, I've gotta give a special shout-out to those two untitled tracks that bookend the album - they're like the ultimate "bookends" for this sonic exploration of the human experience. The first one, "Bad Ground," is basically a 38-second audio glitch that's meant to make you go "WTF?" - and trust me, it works! And the final track? It's just Peter Steele giving you a cheeky little farewell in his signature Brooklyn accent. It's like he's winking at you from beyond the grave. - Gage
