Review
The Turnpike Troubadours' 'A Long Way from Your Heart' is a real treat for fans of country and folk music. Released back in 2017, this album is chock-full of rich storytelling and melodies that'll stick with you long after the music stops. It's their fifth studio album, and boy, does it show their growth as musicians.
Now, I've always had a soft spot for that Red Dirt sound, and these boys don't disappoint. They've got a way of weaving tales that feel like they could be happening right down the street. Take 'The Housefire' for instance - it's the kind of song that paints a picture so vivid, you can almost smell the smoke. And 'A Tornado Warning'? Well, that one'll have you holding your breath, waiting to see how the story unfolds.
What really gets me about this album is how they balance that down-home country feel with some real musical chops. The fiddle and pedal steel guitar work is top-notch, adding layers to already solid tunes like 'Something to Hold On To' and 'Old Time Feeling (Like Before)'. It's the kind of music that makes you want to grab a cold one and just let the world fade away for a while. If you're hankering for some genuine, heartfelt country music, this album's got you covered from start to finish. - Rex
