Review
Tori Amos really knocked it out of the park with "Under the Pink," her second studio album. Released in January 1994, this album is a wild ride through Tori's mind, tackling everything from religion to gender and sexuality. It's like she took all the complex stuff swimming around in her head and turned it into beautiful, haunting music.
The piano work on this album is seriously impressive. Tori's fingers must've been on fire when she recorded tracks like "Bells for Her" and "Yes, Anastasia." And let's talk about "Cornflake Girl" for a sec - that reggae-infused bop became her biggest international hit at the time. I mean, who else could make breakfast cereal sound so cool?
What I love about "Under the Pink" is how Tori's not afraid to get weird with it. She's taunting God one minute and pouring her heart out the next. And did you know Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails lent his voice to "Past the Mission"? Talk about a '90s alt-rock dream team! The album was a huge hit, topping the UK charts and making it to number 12 in the US. Not too shabby for a piano-wielding redhead with a penchant for the peculiar, right? - Bianca
