Review
"Young Mountain" by This Will Destroy You is their debut studio album and, oh wow, what an introduction it is. Originally self-recorded and self-released in 2005, the album grabbed a lot of attention and was repackaged and put out again by Magic Bullet Records in 2006. This album is where post-rock and instrumental rock fans find pure delight.
The tracks, all six of them, are phenomenal. “Quiet” is such a hauntingly beautiful piece that sweeps you into a reflective state, while “Happiness: We're All in It Together” follows with its climactic build-ups. The contrast in volumes, from gentle whispers to powerful crescendos, turns the listening into something truly deep and multifaceted.
Critics went wild over this one, praising its emotional heft and sense of sonic wandering. If you live for post-rock or instrumental music that's more than skin-deep, "Young Mountain" will hit the spot. The impact was so strong that tracks have made their way into film trailers and documentaries, showing just how versatile and powerful these tunes are. This album set the bar high for This Will Destroy You's future projects and what a debut it is. - Sienna
