Review

'My Generation' by The Who is a rock 'n' roll thunderbolt that struck the music world in late '65. This debut album is a glorious fusion of R&B influences and raw, rebellious energy that would go on to shape the future of rock. From the moment you drop the needle on this record, you're hit with a sonic assault that was light years ahead of its time.

The album's production, helmed by Shel Talmy, captures the band's live wire energy in all its chaotic glory. Recorded at IBC Studios in London, you can almost smell the sweat and hear the amp buzz between tracks. The addition of Nicky Hopkins on piano adds a layer of depth to the band's sound, perfectly complementing Pete Townshend's innovative guitar work that would later influence axe-slingers from Hendrix to punk rockers.

The title track 'My Generation' is a middle finger to the establishment that still resonates today, while 'The Kids Are Alright' showcases the band's knack for crafting catchy rock anthems. Their covers of James Brown tunes like 'Please, Please, Please' pay homage to their R&B roots while tracks like 'Out in the Street' hint at the sonic exploration to come. This album isn't just the birth of The Who, it's the Big Bang of rock as we know it. - Hank
