Review
"Wall of Eyes" by The Smile is a compelling blend of Art Rock, Post-Rock, Krautrock, and Neo-Psychedelia, unfolding a richly layered sound palette that reveals the band's remarkable evolution since their debut. The album was crafted in the intimate setting of Jonny Greenwood's home studio in Oxfordshire, as well as at the world-renowned Abbey Road Studios in London. The illustrious London Contemporary Orchestra lends its lush string textures to the tracks, while producer and mixer Sam Petts-Davies - known for his work on Thom Yorke's "Suspiria" soundtrack - ensures that each piece seamlessly comes together.
The standout tracks, such as "Bending Hectic" and "Teleharmonic", exemplify The Smile's capacity to craft invigorating albums full of intrigue. "Bending Hectic", a climactic build-up that crescendos into pure energy, showcases the band's refined musicianship. With its uplifting spirit, "Teleharmonic" balances a vibrant string section and soothing atmosphere. Thom Yorke's distinctive vocals soar in "Read the Room", a refreshing lyrical journey that fully comes alive through Yorke's emotive delivery. Noteworthy in the list of songs is "I Quit", a standout with its innovative, psychedelic-rock combination accented by rich, lush production. - Stephanie
