Review

'Let It Be' by The Replacements is like that friend who suddenly got cool over summer break. Gone are the days of mohawks and safety pins - these guys decided to trade in their punk rock cred for something a bit more refined. But don't worry, they didn't go full-on yacht rock or anything.

Paul Westerberg and the boys decided to throw everything at the wall and see what stuck. You've got jangly pop tunes rubbing shoulders with introspective ballads, and even a dash of their old punk spirit for good measure. 'I Will Dare' kicks things off with a guitar part from R.E.M.'s Peter Buck that'll make you want to dig out your old Rickenbacker (or at least air guitar with a tennis racket).

But it's not all fun and games. Westerberg's lyrics tackle the whole "growing up sucks" vibe with tracks like 'Sixteen Blue' and 'Answering Machine'. It's like he bottled up all the angst and confusion of being a teenager and poured it into these songs. And let's not forget 'Gary's Got A Boner' - because nothing says maturity like a song about unexpected erections, right? Classic Replacements, keeping it classy as always. - Leo
