Review

Right, let's dive into The Offspring's 'Smash', shall we? This little punk rock gem from '94 took the music world by storm, selling over 10 million copies worldwide. Not too shabby for an indie label release, eh?

The lads from California managed to strike a brilliant balance between punk's snarling attitude and pop's ear-worm melodies. Tracks like 'Come Out and Play' and 'Self Esteem' became proper anthems, blaring out of MTV and radio stations like there was no tomorrow. They even threw in a bit of Latino-rap and ska for good measure, showing they weren't just one-trick ponies.

Thom Wilson's production gave 'Smash' a sound that was cleaner than your gran's china but still packed a proper punch. It's no wonder this album became a blueprint for the pop-punk explosion that followed. The Offspring could've easily gone all rock star on us after this, but they kept it real, sticking to the clubs instead of arena tours. Now that's punk, innit? - Liam
