Review

The Incredible String Band, Robin Williamson, one of the duo members, and Mike Heron ventured out, having crafted their second album, "The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion". Released in July 1967, this album looked beyond simple melodies and roots, diving deeper into a psychedelic and folk earthy ground, blending British and Indian classical music. Joining forces with Sitar, Double Bass, and Percussion elements, their eccentric mix produced an authentic vibrant outcome. Tracks as provocative as "Painting Box" encapsulated their emotion-based songwriting capabilities. The cover artwork by The Fool aptly mirrored their allegiance to the arising counterculture movement. - Callum
