Review

Slipknot's All Hope Is Gone is a wild ride, full of jarring chords and pounding drumbeats that'll send you flying down a traceur course. This 2008 album pivots from their earlier nu-metal vibes to a more refined groove-metal sound, with tracks like "Gematria (The Killing Name)" and the self-titled "All Hope Is Gone" showcasing head-spinning thrash riffs and turbo-charged percussion, guaranteeing a heart-stopping snowboarding run. On the other side, songs like "Snuff" offer a chillingly melodic chill-out in contrast, like a daredevil's precision landing on the halfpipe.

The band doesn't hold back, blending seismic heaviness from songs like "Psychosocial" with melodic restraint in "Snuff", proving their willingness to rethink and retool their sound. Critics may have questioned this pivot, but results in a gripping nod to their willingness to evolve. Under its dark, turbulent surface, *All Hope Is Gone* reveals a bridge between the band's intense roots and their future explorations.

High-energy rating: 4 out of 5 - it's a thrilling ride with Slipknot! - Kendra
