Review
Skillet’s sixth adventure, "Comatose," crashed onto the scene on October 3, 2006, and boy, did they bring their A-game this time! Pivotal in their evolution, this album moves away from the dominant keyboards of yesteryear, unleashing a torrent of distorted guitars and orchestral awesomeness. The magic began brewing back in 2003, but it's in "Comatose" where they really hit the sweet spot. It's as if the band amplified their sound with a stadium-rock team spirit, balancing grit with symphonic flair.
Tracks like "Rebirthing" and "Those Nights" dish out some seriously hefty guitar hooks that could rival a power forward's slam dunk. The title track, "Comatose," alongside "Looking for Angels," delves deep into spiritual struggles with a sound that’s as gripping as a last-minute game-winning play. While a few critics couldn't quite catch the appeal of some ballads, the overall grandeur more than resonates. As the last album featuring drummer Lori Peters, "Comatose" not only celebrated Skillet's potential but laid down a formidable groundwork for future sonic strides. Whether you’re hitting the gym or dealing with life's curveballs, this album deserves more than a few plays. - Peter
