Review

In the smoky corners of a dimly lit jazz club, 'Soul of a Woman' by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings whispers tales of resilience and raw emotion. This ain't just another record, friends. It's the final chapter of a soul queen's reign, laid down while she danced with the reaper. Jones, battling the big C, poured every ounce of her fiery spirit into these grooves, leaving us with a sonic testimony that'll shake your bones long after the needle lifts.

From the gritty blues swagger of 'Matter Of Time' to the velvet-wrapped vulnerability of 'When I Saw Your Face', Jones proves she's still got that magic touch. Her voice, honey-soaked and whiskey-strong, weaves through the Dap-Kings' tight rhythms like a prizefighter bobbing and weaving. And when she takes us to church with 'Call on God', well, even the most jaded cats might find their eyes getting a little misty. This ain't just music, it's Sharon Jones' last dance, her final bow, and boy, does she make it count.- Walter
