Review

'Is a Real Boy' by Say Anything isn't your run-of-the-mill emo album. It's a proper middle finger to the genre's stereotypes, tackling everything from rock star egos to groupies with a wicked sense of humor. Max Bemis poured his bipolar disorder into these tracks, giving them a raw edge that cuts through the bullshit and hits you where it counts.

This album's got more layers than a punk onion. It's not just about navel-gazing and feeling sorry for yourself - it's a full-on assault on the music industry, critics, and all the crap that comes with fame. Songs like 'An Orgy of Critics' and 'Every Man Has A Molly' pack a punch that'll leave you reeling.

What started as an indie release turned into a major label deal with J Records, who slapped on a bonus disc called 'Was a Real Boy' when they reissued it. Critics went nuts for it, praising Say Anything for breaking the mold and creating something genuinely fresh. The band's been riding that wave ever since, with anniversary tours that prove this album's still got legs after all these years. - Sydney
