Review

SAULT's debut album '5' dropped in May 2019, and let me tell you, it's a wild ride through the funkiest corners of soul and post-punk. This record doesn't just dip its toes in different genres - it dives headfirst into a pool of groovy, eclectic sounds.

The production, courtesy of Tom Campbell, is slicker than a greased-up disco ball, giving each track its own moment to shine while keeping the whole album tight as a drum. You've got tunes like 'Up All Night' and 'Foot on Necks' that'll have you thinking you've stumbled into some underground club in 1982, all post-punk funk and boogie beats. Then they hit you with 'Why Why Why Why Why' and 'Masterpiece', serving up some neo-soul realness that'll make your head spin.

Critics have been falling over themselves to praise this album, and with good reason. Alexis Petridis from The Guardian even slapped a perfect five-star rating on it. It's no wonder '5' ended up on so many 'Best of 2019' lists. SAULT came out swinging with this debut, proving they're not just here to play - they're here to change the game. From the punchy 'Pink Sands' to the groove-laden 'Add a Little Bit of SAULT', this album is a non-stop party that'll have you dancing from start to finish. - Omar
