Review

Well, let me tell you 'bout Sam Cooke's "Twistin' the Night Away" album. This little gem dropped back in '62 and it's just bursting with that early 60s groove. Now, I ain't no expert, but I reckon Hugo & Luigi did a mighty fine job producin' this record, blendin' R&B, dance, and soul music like they was mixin' up a perfect cocktail.

The title track, "Twistin' the Night Away," is the kinda song that'll get your feet movin' before you even realize it. It was a big hit back then, climbin' up to number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sittin' pretty at number 1 on the R&B chart. But don't you go thinkin' this album's just about the twist. Sam's got a way of singin' that makes every song feel fresh, whether it's an upbeat number like "Twistin' in the Kitchen with Dinah" or a soulful ballad like "Soothe Me."

Now, I gotta say, the folks playin' on this record are top-notch. You've got The Wreckin' Crew and that arrangin' wizard René Hall workin' their magic. And let's not forget about tracks like "Sugar Dumpling" and "Somebody's Gonna Miss Me" that really show off Sam's range. This album's got a little somethin' for everyone, and that's why it's still worth a listen all these years later. - Jackson
