Royal Blood's 'Typhoons' is a rollicking ride that'll have you tapping your toes and banging your head in equal measure. This third studio offering from the Brighton-based duo is a delightful fusion of their trademark rock swagger with an unexpected disco twist. It's as if Led Zeppelin and Daft Punk had a love child, and I must say, it's a rather handsome one at that.
The lads have outdone themselves with this self-produced gem, crafting it amidst the chaos of lockdowns. One might say the pandemic proved to be a surprisingly fruitful muse, birthing standout tracks like 'Limbo' and 'Mad Visions'. The latter, I must add, channels the spirit of Prince so convincingly, you'd half expect the purple one to pop out of your speakers.
But it's not all glitter balls and disco lights. The album's closer, 'All We Have Is Now', strips away the bravado to reveal a softer underbelly. This piano ballad is a sobering reminder of lead singer Mike Kerr's personal battles, adding a layer of depth to an already rich musical tapestry. 'Typhoons' is a testament to Royal Blood's evolving artistry, proving they're not just one-trick ponies, but rather a band willing to push boundaries while keeping their rock roots firmly intact. - Oliver
