Review
I've gotta say, Rex Orange County's 'Apricot Princess' is a real gem. This album's got me all kinds of impressed, especially considering how young Alex O'Connor was when he put it together. It's not just his age that's remarkable, though - it's the way he mixes up different styles like jazz, soul, and even a bit of bossa nova. That takes some serious musical chops!
The tunes on this album are catchy as heck, but they've also got depth. 'Television / So Far So Good' is a standout for me - the way it shifts between rock and chamber pop, with those little rap bits thrown in, is just so clever. And let's talk about the lyrics for a sec. O'Connor doesn't hold back, does he? Songs like 'Untitled' feel like you're reading his diary. It's refreshing to hear someone be so open and honest in their music.
What really blows my mind is that O'Connor did so much of the production work himself. That's seriously impressive. And the guest vocals from Marco McKinnis and Thea Morgan-Murrell? Chef's kiss. They add just the right touch to round out the album. No wonder 'Apricot Princess' did so well on the charts and got that Silver certification. It's the kind of album that sticks with you, you know? - Sienna
