Review
Well, well, well, look who's back to rocking our socks off! Muse's 'Drones' is like that friend who went on a weird health kick for a while but finally came back to enjoy a greasy burger with you. This time, they've teamed up with producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, because apparently, they needed someone who could make AC/DC sound subtle to help them dial it back a notch.
The album's concept follows a soldier's journey from regular Joe to brainwashed drone and back again. It's like 'The Matrix' meets 'Full Metal Jacket', but with more guitar solos. And speaking of guitars, Matt Bellamy must've remembered where he left his, because 'Drones' is chock-full of riffs that'll make your neighbor's dog howl along in delight.
Critics were split faster than Matt and Kate Hudson, but that didn't stop 'Drones' from flying to the top of charts in 21 countries. It even snagged a Grammy for Best Rock Album, proving that sometimes, the simplest approach is the best - even if your lyrics are about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face. The 'Drones World Tour' that followed was a spectacle, complete with actual drones buzzing around. Because nothing says 'rock concert' like the constant threat of being decapitated by a rogue flying robot, right? - Dave
