Review
Holy crap, y'all! MUNA's self-titled album is a freaking rainbow explosion of awesomeness! I'm telling you, this record is like a musical rollercoaster that'll leave you breathless and grinning from ear to ear. Released in June 2022, it's their first full-length with Phoebe Bridgers' label, Saddest Factory Records, and let me tell you, they did not come to play.
From synth-pop to disco to hyperpop, MUNA throws everything into the blender and somehow comes out with pure gold. 'Silk Chiffon' (featuring the queen herself, Phoebe Bridgers) and 'Kind of Girl' have this country-pop twang that'll make you want to two-step in your bedroom. But then they hit you with tracks like 'Anything But Me' and 'What I Want' that are straight-up electropop bangers. And don't even get me started on 'Runner's High' - it's this disco-infused self-care anthem that'll have you dancing through your heartbreak.
Critics are losing their minds over this album, and honestly, same. It's all about self-love and queer joy, and it's resonating hard with Gen Z (and yours truly). MUNA's first charting album on multiple charts, including the US Billboard 200 and UK Albums Chart? Yeah, that tracks. This album is a goddamn masterpiece that'll transport you to a brighter, louder, prouder place. It's unapologetically queer, empowering as hell, and I can't stop listening to it. Trust me, you need this album in your life yesterday. - Madi
