Review
Alright, let's talk about Mudvayne's self-titled album from 2009. This bad boy was their last hurrah before they took a whopping eleven-year break, and let me tell you, they went out with a bang! It's heavy as hell, reminding me of their earlier stuff like 'The End of All Things to Come'.
The guys recorded this beast in the summer of '08, and they brought in Jeremy Parker and David Fortman to produce it. What I love about this album is how it mixes up their styles. You've got tracks like 'Beautiful and Strange' and 'Scream with Me' that blend their newer sound with that aggressive edge we all fell in love with back in the day. It's like they took everything they learned over the years and threw it in a blender - in the best way possible!
Now, let's talk about the packaging for a sec. They got this tattoo artist, Paul Booth, to design it with blacklight-reactive ink. How cool is that? It's like their own little 'white album', which is pretty ironic considering how heavy the music is. Musically, it's pure Mudvayne - Chad Gray's vocals are on point, Greg Tribbett's guitar work is killer, and Ryan Martinie and Matthew McDonough hold down the rhythm section like champs. Sure, some people said it sounded a bit like their older stuff, but I think that's part of its charm. It hit number 53 on the Billboard 200, which isn't too shabby for a nu metal album in 2009! - Sienna
