Review
"Dance and Cry" by Mother Mother dropped on November 2, 2018, and I'll tell ya, it's got that vibe of going back to their roots. Produced by Ryan Guldemond and Ben Kaplan, this seventh studio album shakes things up with a return to a stripped-down, organic sound reminiscent of their earlier days. It's packed with 12 tracks penned by Guldemond himself, diving into themes like survival and happiness with his usual flair. The lead single, "Get Up," hit the airwaves hard, catching some big attention on the Canadian Alternative Rock scene right off the bat.
The musical vibes of "Dance and Cry" are fresh yet familiar, meshing indie rock with a touch of folk that’s distinctively Mother Mother. Toss in tracks like "I Must Cry Out Loud" and the title track "Dance and Cry," and you're getting something raw and emotional. They nail these tunes without losing that catchy essence. Don’t sleep on tracks like "So Down" and "It’s Alright" either; they show just how versatile and dynamic the band can get. While it didn’t climb the charts as much as some might expect, it surely maintains the fan love and that classic Mother Mother uniqueness. - Preston
