Review

Macklemore drops "BEN" as his 2023 solo venture, and it's basically him getting real about everything – recovery, being a dad, faith, the whole nine yards. This 15-track journey clocks in at nearly 54 minutes and brings together some interesting voices like Tones and I, DJ Premier, and NLE Choppa. The hip-hop foundation gets some pop flavoring mixed in, while Budo's production keeps everything grounded in that introspective headspace. It's Macklemore laying his cards on the table, talking mental health and life changes with the kind of honesty that makes you lean in.

Sure, "BEN" might not hit the same heights as his earlier stuff, and some folks think it plays things a bit safe instead of pushing boundaries. But there's something to be said for an artist willing to strip things down and get vulnerable about their journey. The collaborations add some nice variety to the mix, and even if the execution doesn't always stick the landing, you can't fault the guy for putting his truth out there. It's a solid entry in his catalog that shows where his head's at right now, even if it doesn't revolutionize the game. - Kaitlyn
