Lexi Jayde's 2022 EP "closer to closure" is all about going toe-to-toe with the messy, tangled emotions that come with a breakup. Across a compact nine tracks and 25 minutes, Jayde masterfully navigates the spectrum of heartbreak, from the initial shock and despair to the fiery anger and eventually, the empowering shift towards self-discovery.
The tracks are super intimate and personal, like the opening "you don't deserve these tears," which tackles the difficult temptation to reach out to your ex despite knowing you shouldn't. Others, like "homesick" and "drunk text me," dive deep into the frustration of watching your ex transform into someone unrecognizable and grappling to let go. Jayde's songwriting and vocals balance her vulnerability with strength, making each song a vital piece of her journey towards moving forward. With notable producers like Nick Ruth and FINNEAS on board, "closer to closure" has a polished yet undeniably emotional indie pop/rock sound. Jayde herself admits this EP is the closest she'll get to closure from this specific breakup, making the album a testament to its raw authenticity and personal significance. - Morgan
