Review

Katy Perry’s fourth album "PRISM" dropped like a glitter bomb in the music world on October 18, 2013. Originally pitched as a darker project, the album pivoted to more of a dance-pop vibe, which definitely isn't a party foul in my book. It turns out a lot of folks agreed, because "PRISM" dazzled its way to the top of the US Billboard 200, marking Katy's best debut week ever. With catchy anthems like "Roar," "Dark Horse," and "Birthday," this album wasn't just shaking up charts but also dance floors worldwide, selling over 4 million copies.

Critics had a lot to say about "PRISM," casting a mostly sunny forecast. The Daily Telegraph was all in, giving it a glowing five stars and complimenting Perry's newfound artistic maturity. However, it was a bit of a mixed bag with reviews from places like The Guardian and AllMusic, each offering a lukewarm three stars and noting its polished production but hinting at a missing spark. Nonetheless, with tracks that bring both vulnerability and an undeniable fun factor, Katy proved she could whip up a musical feast that’s both introspective and irresistibly fun. The special 10th Anniversary Edition, featuring prismatic vinyl and extra goodies, was just the cherry on top for fans. With over 10 million albums and 71 million digital singles sold globally, "PRISM" really did shine bright in pop's constellation. - Bianca
