Review
I've always had a soft spot for Katrina & The Waves' 1985 self-titled album, which really put them on the map after signing with a major label. The production quality is so much better than their earlier stuff - they basically took some of their previous tracks, polished them up, and created something that perfectly captures that mid-80s new wave vibe. 'Walking on Sunshine' is obviously the breakout hit here, and I still can't help dancing whenever those drums kick in at the beginning. That song crushed it in both America and the UK, and for good reason!
What I love about this album is how it doesn't rely solely on its biggest hit. Tracks like 'Do You Want Crying' and 'Going Down to Liverpool' are just as catchy in their own right - they've got these super infectious pop-rock qualities that stick in your head for days. This album really introduced the band to mainstream audiences and became such an important part of that whole 80s sound. Even with some tracks being stronger than others, the album holds together really well as a complete package that shows off their talent for creating those unforgettable hooks. - Sienna
