Review

I've been absolutely wrapped up in Katie Lynne Sharbaugh's 'Upstaged!' lately, and let me tell you, this theatrical journey has been living rent-free in my head. The way she structures the album in four distinct acts reminds me so much of sitting in a darkened theater, watching a story unfold before my eyes. Her voice carries you through this introspective journey of a woman finding her place in the world, and I found myself nodding along, thinking "yeah, I've been there too." The fusion of pop, jazz, and folk elements creates this beautiful musical patchwork, and when her violin comes in – those moments just send shivers through me.

'Lucky Girl Syndrome' had me dancing around my kitchen on first listen, but it was 'I Think I Am To You' that really captured something special with those jazzy undertones and clever metaphors. The bass line on that track is something else! And then she pivots to these gorgeous folk storytelling moments in 'Little Fortune' and 'Omaha' that feel like sitting by a campfire with an old friend. By the time 'Problem' wrapped up the album, I felt like I'd been through something transformative – that's the magic of Sharbaugh's songwriting. She creates this space where theatrical presentation meets raw emotional truth, and I'm completely here for it. - Lexi
