Review

Justin Bieber burst onto the scene with 'My World' in 2009, and let me tell you, it was the start of something huge. This seven-song EP clocks in at under 26 minutes but packs quite the punch with its blend of pop, dance-pop, and R&B influences. What really struck me about this record was how it captured that whole teenage romance vibe - Bieber was literally singing about the stuff his fans were going through, which made the connection instant. Working with heavyweight talents like Usher and Tricky Stewart gave the project a polished sound that belied Justin's super young age.

The commercial success of 'My World' was no joke - debuting at number six on the Billboard 200 with 137,000 copies sold in its first week made it the strongest debut by a new artist that year. I remember when this dropped, and suddenly every teenager I knew was either in love with him or pretending not to be. The EP eventually climbed to number five after his full album 'My World 2.0' came out in 2010. It wasn't just an American phenomenon either - this thing topped the Canadian charts and went double Platinum in both Canada and the UK.

What's wild looking back is how perfectly 'My World' positioned Bieber as pop's next big thing. His voice was still developing but had this surprising confidence that made songs like 'One Time' and 'Love Me' instantly catchy. The production was clean and accessible while still feeling current for 2009 (which feels like a million years ago now). This EP was basically the appetizer before the main course of Bieber Fever that would sweep the globe. Listening to it now is like opening a time capsule to the moment when this Canadian YouTube kid was just starting to transform into a global superstar. - Madi
