Review

Joe Nichols' album "III," which first graced our ears back in October 2005, always brings a smile to my face, reminding me of those crisp autumn days. This collection of tunes, his fourth time around in the studio, truly showcases that classic country spirit mixed with a dash of what was fresh and new back then. His voice, oh, it's just as smooth as a glass of sweet tea on a hot summer afternoon, telling stories that feel like they're plucked right out of real life. Produced by the talented Brent Rowan, Buddy Cannon, and Byron Gallimore, every song on here just sings, making it a perfect soundtrack for a long drive down a backroad or simply kicking back on the porch.

You know, sometimes music just captures a moment perfectly, and for me, a song like "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" certainly did that, always good for a chuckle with its catchy, playful spirit. But it wasn't all just fun and games on "III"; tunes like "Size Matters (Someday)" and "I'll Wait for You" show off a more thoughtful side, hitting those heartfelt notes. I always appreciate how Joe also tipped his hat to the greats, weaving in covers like Steve Earle's "My Old Friend the Blues" and Gene Watson's "Should I Come Home (Or Should I Go Crazy)," which just proves his love for the roots of country music. It's that blend of familiar comfort and a little bit of playful charm that made this album such a well-loved listen, resonating with so many folks and earning its place as a gold-certified favorite. - Brenda
