Review
Jenny Lewis really flexes her genre-bending muscles in her fifth solo album, "Joy'All." Recorded in the legendary RCA Studio A in Nashville, this album is a melting pot of soul, '90s R&B, country, and classic singer-songwriter vibes. Thanks to the expertise of producer Dave Cobb, who's snagged eight GRAMMYs, the sound is both rich and intimate, a real treat for the ears.
"Joy'All" features a collection of 10 tracks including catchy singles like "Psychos," "Giddy Up," "Cherry Baby," and the standout title track, all of which underscore Lewis’s talent for weaving captivating stories with memorable melodies. While some critics weren't thrilled with the predominance of acoustic guitar and the slight miss on the finer points of country precision, the album still hit a sweet spot for many, scoring a solid 79 out of 100 on Metacritic. With its relatable themes of love, self-discovery, and modern relationship dilemmas, "Joy'All" proves to be quite the compelling listen, showcasing Lewis’s continued evolution and depth as a solo artist. - Preston
