Review

'Tawk Tomahawk' hit the streets in 2012 (officially droppin' wider in 2013), and lemme tell you—Hiatus Kaiyote came through with a sound that's straight-up their own. This Melbourne crew cooked up what they call "wondercore," and I'm all the way here for it. The way they blend that earth-shakin' soul with jazz warmth and hip-hop beats got me noddin' my head from the jump. Those short interludes between tracks? Pure genius, makin' the whole album flow like one continuous vibe rather than just a playlist.

When I first heard 'Mobius Streak,' I knew this wasn't gonna be your average listen—that track switches tempos and creates a whole mood. 'Malika' hits deep with them poetic lyrics that'll have you in your feelings, no cap. But real talk, 'Nakamarra' might be the crown jewel, featuring Hannah Gadsby and showcasing Nai Palm's vocal magic that had even the industry heads turnt. This debut showed everybody that Hiatus Kaiyote wasn't playin' around—they came to shake up the game with their musical vision, and that's exactly what they did. - Cohen
