Review

Well, hot damn! Halestorm's 'The Strange Case Of...' is like a musical Jekyll and Hyde experiment gone deliciously right. This sophomore effort from 2012 is heavier than a lead balloon filled with concrete, but still manages to sneak its way onto radio playlists like a rock 'n' roll ninja.

Producer Howard Benson must've slipped something into the band's Wheaties, because they've cranked up the intensity to eleven. Lzzy Hale's vocals? They're a force of nature, switching from siren-song sweetness to banshee screams faster than you can say "bipolar disorder." And Joe Hottinger's guitar work? It's so tasty, you might want to spread it on toast.

'Love Bites (So Do I)' snagged a Grammy, proving that sometimes the Recording Academy actually listens to rock music. Meanwhile, 'Freak Like Me' topped the Mainstream Rock chart, because apparently, we're all a bunch of freaks. And let's not forget 'Here's to Us,' which got the 'Glee' treatment and then a star-studded re-release. Because nothing says "we've made it" like Slash crashing your party. With over a million copies sold, this album's got more staying power than your aunt's fruitcake at Christmas. - Dave
