Review
Gracie Abrams' debut album, "Good Riddance", is an emotionally charged masterpiece that embodies the very essence of introspective songwriting. Released in 2023, this album is a testament to Abrams' remarkable ability to weave whispered hooks and poignant storytelling, evoking the lyrical wisdom of Taylor Swift.
With production handled by Aaron Dessner of The National, Abrams' raw talent is elevated to new heights, resulting in a sophisticated and polished sound. The album's narrative explores themes of relationships, growth, and self-discovery, with each track expertly crafted to resonate deeply with listeners.
From the mournful "I Know It Won't Work" to the guitar-driven "Full Machine", Abrams showcases her impressive range and versatility. Standout tracks like "Difficult" and "Amelie" demonstrate her skill in crafting catchy, memorable melodies that linger in the listener's mind. As I'd expect from a Bechdel-passing album, Abrams' "Good Riddance" is a triumph of female storytelling, where women's voices and experiences are front and center. - Simone
