Review

After a seven-year gap, Good Charlotte return with Motel Du Cap, their eighth studio LP, released August 8, 2025. Produced partly by Jordan Fish and Zakk Cervini, the album mixes the band’s classic pop-punk roots with more mature songwriting, featuring guest artists like Wiz Khalifa, Zeph, Luke Borchelt, and Petti Hendrix.

Sonically, Motel Du Cap leans on anthemic guitar riffs, nostalgia-tinged energy, and lyrical themes reflecting on growth, family life, and reclaiming the joy of music without pressure. It’s not aggressively experimental, but it does stretch Good Charlotte’s edges—ballads like “Castle in the Sand” and more introspective tracks sit alongside brash numbers like the lead single “Rejects.” The album feels like a celebration—not just of what the band has been, but of who they are now.

There are moments where the weight of legacy shows: holding up to early-2000s pop-punk hits is a tall order, and some tracks don’t hit as sharply as their most iconic anthems. But overall, Motel Du Cap succeeds more than it falters—Good Charlotte have made a record that’s heartfelt, reflective, and still capable of giving the fans the kind of vigor they’ve waited for.- Jordan
