Review
With their self-titled album "Flyte", the London duo takes a carefully considered direction towards introspection and poetic honesty. Will Taylor and Nick Hill draw on years of friendship, weaving understated acoustic guitars and gentle piano melodies around Taylor’s unmistakable airy vocals. From the very beginning, songs like "Speech Bubble" set a tone of deliberate sparsity, allowing raw lyrical reflections on heartbreak to land with quiet potency. Each track opts for an unfussy approach, allowing the emotional currents to remain the central focus.
Themes of love and meaningful connection pulse through the album, particularly shaped by Taylor’s relationship with Billie Marten, who lends her voice to "Don’t Forget About Us". Guest features are delicately placed—most notably Laura Marling’s addition on "Tough Love"—never distracting from the duo’s intimate dynamic. The decision to record independently after leaving Island Records shows in the album’s restrained production; nothing here feels forced. The result is a mature, thoughtfully-crafted work that values intimacy, with every song given its own graceful space to unfold. - Michelle
