Review

Five Finger Death Punch sure knows how to crank out a killer record and "The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1" is no exception. Released on July 30, 2013, this album emerged from a creative storm that had the band slinging tracks like a wild guitar solo at Woodstock ‘69. The band decided to drop two volumes in one year because, hey, when the riff-laden river flows, you don't shut it off. They packed 11 tracks with their signature blend of thunderous riffs and catchy hooks, featuring some elite guest appearances to boot. The standout, "Lift Me Up," pairs the metal warriors with Rob Halford of Judas Priest, packing an extra punch that smashes through the speakers like a fiery encore.

Add in the flair of Tech N9ne on a ripping cover of "Mama Said Knock You Out" and the haunting vibes of Maria Brink on "Anywhere But Here," and you've got yourself an album that's all about sophisticated brutality with a side of artistry. Produced by Kevin Churko alongside the band, it's polished but keeps the raw, gritty edges that headbangers love so much. With songs like "Wrong Side of Heaven" and "Diary of a Deadman," the band hits on themes of personal challenges and social commentary, resonating in a way that brings to mind some soul-searching numbers from old-school legends. This album — a heady brew of talent and tenacity — shows just why Five Finger Death Punch is rooted at the top of the heavy metal hill. - Jude
