Review

Fiddlehead's 2021 banger, "Between the Richness," smashes through the dull shit of adulthood with a raw, introspective punch. Clocking in at a brisk 25 minutes, this album manages to weave emo and post-hardcore influences without the genre's usual clichés. It's gruff, it's approachable, it's pure Fiddlehead magic.

Pat Flynn's vocals rip through your heart as he wrestles with heavy themes—his father's death and his son's birth—especially on the heart-wrenching track, "The Years." Expect melancholic guitar riffs and reverb-heavy vocals that nod to shoegaze and slowcore while staying true to their hardcore roots. Tracks like "Eternal You" show their knack for merging power pop with heartfelt spoken-word, and songs like "Million Times" and "Down University" deliver hooks that'll knock the wind out of you, all without selling out. "Between the Richness" is a blistering exploration of growing up and carving out your space in this wild world. - Peyton
