I've gotta say, Ethel Cain's 'Inbred' is one of those EPs that really sticks with you. Released in April 2021, it's a perfect showcase of Hayden Silas Anhedönia's talent under her Ethel Cain persona. The way she blends slowcore and indie rock is just mesmerizing, creating this haunting vibe that I can't get enough of.
What really struck me about this EP is how personal it feels. Cain's not afraid to dig deep into her own experiences and emotions, and it shows in tracks like 'Michelle Pfeiffer' and 'Crush'. These songs are catchy as hell, but they've also got this raw, vulnerable edge that just hits different. And don't even get me started on 'God's Country' - that track with Wicca Phase Springs Eternal is a whole mood, with its long, atmospheric sound that just pulls you in.
The fact that Cain produced most of this herself really adds to the intimate feel of the whole EP. It's like she's letting us peek into her world, you know? And while she's got some guest artists on there, they fit right in without overshadowing her unique style. 'Inbred' is definitely a step up for Ethel Cain, showing off her growth as both a musician and a storyteller. It's the kind of EP that makes you excited to see what she'll do next. - Sienna
