Review

'EV3' hit the scene in 1997 as En Vogue regrouped as a trio following Dawn Robinson's exit, and y'all can hear them finding their new identity throughout the project. The ladies didn't miss a beat though, serving up that signature vocal heat across a mix of R&B, funk, and pop tracks that kept their sound fresh. That monster hit 'Don't Let Go (Love)' was straight fire, dominating radio worldwide and proving these queens weren't going anywhere. Having heavyweight producers like Babyface and Diane Warren in the cut definitely gave the album that professional polish, even if some tracks leaned more mature than their earlier work.

The group showed mad resilience during this transition period, adapting their harmonies and stage presence as a trio while still delivering those vocal performances that made them legends in the first place. Though some day-one fans might've felt the album moved too far into adult contemporary territory compared to their funkier beginnings, you can't deny the quality of cuts like 'Whatever' that still bang today. What's dope about 'EV3' is how it captures En Vogue at a crossroads—honoring their signature sound while pushing forward into new territory. The ladies proved they could evolve with the times without losing what made them special in the first place. - Jace
