Review

Elle King's third studio album, "Come Get Your Wife," dropped on January 27, 2023, and it sure is a doozy, 'cause she's bad lightning cracked wide open into the country scene. Teaming up with Ross Copperman, Elle's brought her first collection since "Shake the Spirit" way back in 2018. You can tell right off the bat, this ain't just any ol' country collection—she's weavin' rock and soul into a mighty tangy concoction with a sackful o' grit.

Tracks like "Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)" with Miranda Lambert and "Worth a Shot" featuring Dierks Bentley blend styles in ways that'll make your ears dance and your heart thump. It's Elle wearin' her heart on her sleeve, wantin' to show the windows of her life a bit clearer. She talks plain about her Southern Ohio roots in songs like "Ohio" and "Out Yonder," bringin' out pieces of her past she ain't hidin' no more.

The magic of "Come Get Your Wife" also lies in its raw and lively feel—just about all the songs were recorded live in just two days with a band. That adds an edge that's electric and windy as a summer storm. With songwriting buddies from Nashville like Ella Langley, Bobby Hamrick, and Matt McKinney tossin' their hats in the ring, she's got herself quite the genuine country album. Elle King's got a raspy voice that'll stick cozily in your mind, managin' to strike an engaging balance and charm folks left, right, and center. - Mia
