Review
'Up from Below' by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros is a colorful tapestry of sounds that takes you on a journey through the dusty roads of Americana and the sunny fields of indie folk. Recorded in the cozy confines of Woodrow Hideaway in Laurel Canyon, this debut album feels like a warm hug from an old friend you've just met. The band's blend of vocal harmonies and upbeat rhythms creates a sound that's both nostalgic and fresh, like finding a vintage postcard in a shiny new envelope.
From the moment '40 Day Dream' kicks things off, you're swept up in a whirlwind of feel-good vibes and catchy melodies. But it's 'Home' that really steals the show - a song so heartfelt and universal, it's found its way into our collective consciousness, popping up in everything from TV shows to wedding playlists. It's the kind of track that makes you want to grab your best friend and dance barefoot in the grass.
While some critics were split on the album's consistency, there's no denying the infectious energy that pulses through tracks like 'Janglin' and 'Carries On'. These songs have a way of seeping into your bones, making you feel like you're part of something bigger. And isn't that what great music is all about? With its Gold certification and over 363,000 copies sold in the US alone, 'Up from Below' has clearly struck a chord with listeners, proving that sometimes, all we need is a little bit of joy and a whole lot of harmony. - Raine
