'Dr. Octagonecologyst' isn't just weird - it's gloriously insane in all the right ways. Kool Keith's bizarre alter-ego as a time-traveling alien gynecologist from Jupiter delivers some of the most twisted, unsettling rhymes ever committed to tape, floating over Dan The Automator's genre-warping production that sounds like trip-hop having a nervous breakdown in a sci-fi hospital. DJ Qbert's scratch wizardry adds another layer of extraterrestrial madness to this 1996 underground classic that essentially created its own deranged subgenre. This fever dream of an album somehow manages to be simultaneously revolting, hilarious, and technically brilliant - a psychedelic hip-hop freak show that continues to influence experimental artists who dare to get truly strange with it. - Ace
