Review

DMX's '...And Then There Was X' absolutely blew me away when I first heard it back in 1999. His distinctive growl and aggressive delivery are so authentic, you can practically feel his energy vibrating through your speakers. What really struck me about this album is how DMX warns about street life's harsh realities rather than painting it as glamorous. The contrast between intense tracks like 'One More Road to Cross' and the irresistibly catchy 'Party Up (Up in Here)' shows just how versatile he could be.

I love how he brings in collaborators like Sisqó, The LOX, and Regina Belle that complement his robust performance without overshadowing his unique style. The raw emotion in his lyrics paired with those dark, doomy beats creates such a powerful listening experience. 'What's My Name?' and 'What These Bitches Want' highlight exactly why this album cemented DMX's place in hip-hop royalty. There's something so compelling about his ability to balance aggression with moments of real vulnerability that made this third album a genuine standout in late 90s hip-hop. - Sienna
