Review

You know, there's something special about an album that marks a turning point for a band. That's exactly what 'Hold My Home' did for Cold War Kids back in 2014. I remember putting it on for the first time and thinking, "Wow, these guys are really going for it!"

With Joe Plummer from Modest Mouse joining the lineup, Cold War Kids found a new groove that just clicked. It's like they took all the raw energy from their earlier stuff and polished it up without losing that spark that made them unique. Nathan Willett's vocals? Still as versatile as ever, jumping from gritty to smooth in a heartbeat. And the instrumentation? It's tight, disciplined, but still packs a punch.

Sure, not everyone was on board with the new direction. Some folks thought it was playing it a bit safe, missing that experimental edge. But for me, 'Hold My Home' feels like Cold War Kids coming into their own. It's confident, it's mature, and it shows a band that's not afraid to evolve. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to their music, this album's got something that'll grab you and make you listen just a little bit closer. - Jennifer
